Worship at NPC
I love the way we pray together. More than anything else, these
moments teach us humility before God and each other.
Every week in worship when we bend our hearts to the will of God are
moments of real spiritual thirst. Corporate prayer sets the stage
for personal confessions offered in silence. We drain our whole self
to make room for God’s soul filling forgiveness and then rise up in
grateful praise to God before greeting each other with enthusiasm
and genuine care.
A little later you’ll experience a deep sincerity of communal care.
Both the joys and concerns of the congregation are shared and we
practice what it means to rejoice with those who rejoice and grieve
with those who grieve. God is teaching us to open our hearts to the
lives of others so we aren’t so focused on self all the time.
Of course, most people want to know about the style of worship. Is
it traditional? blended? contemporary? gospel? Do people raise their
hands or just their hearts when they lift their voices to sing? What
about the preacher? Is he any good or will I get to take a nice nap?
But the answer to those questions aren’t what’s most important about
our worship, or any other church’s for that matter. What’s most
important is whether God’s Spirit is evident. God assembles our
folks to worship. God moves in their lives. God carries out the work
God intends to do as we worship. It doesn’t matter what else is
happening in worship but to know that we are engaged in worship of
the Living God.
So I’d offer up the most common comment I’ve heard about our
services - they’re inspiring.
The path to inspiration is different for different folks. You may or
may not resonate with how we choose to worship God. We sing hymns.
The organ and piano are the two most common instruments, with
occasional use of trumpet and French horn. Sermons are down to
earth, biblical and energetic. We make little use of projectors. We
like to laugh at ourselves as we seek God’s heart. When we’re done,
we always leave the sanctuary different than when we came in.
Our prayer is that you will find a church home where you can worship
God. If this style isn’t connecting with you, then feel free to
contact us and let us know what you’re looking for. We’d love to
help you find a church that more meets your needs.
Be at peace,
Pastor Dave |
