Vision Statement

The people of Nottingham Presbyterian Church are Christ-centered, friendly and faithful followers of Jesus who are called to surrender our individual desires to do God’s will. We are led by God to be a light in this world by evangelizing as we live, work and worship.

In the next three to five years, we will:

Bring the love of Jesus to our community by fostering an accepting, nurturing and compassionate environment.

Expand our missions, infrastructure and worship experiences to meet the community’s needs.

Passionately and enthusiastically develop opportunities for personal and spiritual growth.

Seek to develop partnerships with local organizations in pursuit of God’s vision for the greater Nottingham area.

Foundational Values

Christ Centered: focused on what would Christ do; grace filled life, not one that works harder and harder; always coming back to foundation.

Friendly: love thy neighbor/enemy; entertain strangers.

Biblical: base decisions on the Word of God; continue learning/studying the Word; be obedient to the Word; treat others based on Jesus' character as told by the Word; commune as one in mind, body, and spirit; whatever we do we do it in accordance with God's Word.

Faithful: we believe in God's control.

Dependent on God: anything we accomplish is because of our dependence on God and we give him praise and thanksgiving; we believe in God even when things don't work the way we thought; God is still working through our failures.

Nurturing: work together to help the weak as needed; coming along side; "mothering"; compassionate; giving people tools to develop a personal relationship with God so they can take ownership of their own faith and become dependent on God; empowering without expectations; slow and steady

Ministry Values

Accepting: no biases; non-discriminatory; love as Christ loves.

Teamwork: have common goal; all share the work.

People Focused: our concern is for community and congregation.

Evangelistic: not ashamed or afraid to talk about Jesus and our faith; showing God's love by how Christ lives in and through us; being willing to play different roles to get the job done.

Enthusiastic: excited; glad to be here; passion about the church and God's work.

  Strategic Initiatives – Big Goals

The end of the discernment process led us to believe that God is asking us to do specific strategic initiatives to embody the vision. These are listed below with their approximate start and completion dates. Overall, we expect to work on implementing these initiatives through 2013 at the earliest, 2015 on the outside.

  1. Spiritual and Personal Growth

Parameters:
Christian-based, small groups formed around common interests, support groups, Bible Study, prayer groups, community college style courses, ecumenical, mission training, parenting, outside groups like Moms in Touch

Goals:
We will develop multiple small groups within the congregation and expect new members to join one or form their own for the purpose of developing healthy relationships centered on reflections of and preparation for worship, Bible Study and/or prayer.

We will open our facility for use by support groups which meet approval of the Session.

Start 1/11
Completion 12/11

  2. Technology

Parameters:
User friendly website that defines who we are, video capability, online study/meetings

Goals:
We will build a website that is interactive, informational, responsive, seeker-friendly, will receive feedback (hit counts and usage data), include audio/video and a “youth zone,” is secure, concise, will pop to the top of search engines and be continually refreshed.

We will purchase and utilize technology needed to conduct webinars, online meetings and online classes.

Completion 6/11

  3. Youth Programs

Parameters:
Age appropriate, tech. heavy, upbeat music/worship, affirm baptismal vows all the way through college, family driven, activities, acceptance and love, peer development, non-judgmental, connects and relies on partnerships.

Goals:
We will affirm and encourage the correct application of baptismal vows within our congregation through education, role models, mentors, parenting initiatives and youth participation in worship so we become a congregation which embraces and nurtures youth to build in them a vital relationship with Jesus.

We will seek out and implement developmentally appropriate, parent/grandparent participated, youth programs that will communicate the gospel in ways relevant to youth culture.

We will construct outdoor play areas to fill immediate needs.

We will incorporate youth in planning and presentation worship using video technology and upbeat music while allowing other ideas they may generate to be considered.

Start 3/11
Completion 8/12

  4. Missions

Parameters:
Faithful action to meet needs (e.g. physical, health, housing, nutrition, independence building) locally, nationally and internationally, multi-generational, organizations like Young Life, the Lighthouse, Neighborhood Services, as well as national and international groups.

Goals:
We will engage the passions of our congregation in local mission, partner with other organizations in regional mission trips, and establish periodic international mission trips as God leads and provides in order to build relationships that either lead to or nurture salvation.

We will expect the congregation to bring their talents to participate in mission every year.

Start 1/12
Completion 12/12

  5. Community Partnerships

Parameters:
Dialogue over common goals, mutual investment of resources, strive for more than event-based partnerships, shared Christian mission and community goals for a Gestalt result (the body is greater than the sum of its parts).

Goals:
Beginning with event-based partnerships, we will engage with the Kingdom-minded organizations in the Nottingham area to develop and implement at least four shared mission objectives.

Start 6/12
Completion 6/13

  6. Building

Parameters:
Determine what we want/need, determine community wants/needs, kitchen/banquet, classrooms, multi-purpose, green, offices, lounge/library, secure wifi, accessible

Goals:
We will consult a site planner, architect/engineer and community leaders to determine possibilities with site and facility we currently own based on future needs.

We will investigate purchase of adjacent or other property should the site planner recommendations not fulfill our needs.

We will start the process of clearing this addition with the Presbytery.

We will start a capital campaign to fund the building with the goal of paying cash.

Start 1/11
Completion 12/13
