New to Nottingham Presbyterian Church
Dear Friend in Christ,
We’ve got a reputation around town for being friendly and busy. It’s
well deserved. You’ll experience it as we Pass the Peace in worship,
extending the grace of God to each other with genuine friendship and
concern. You’ll hear it in our announcements as we get ready for
whatever’s next on the calendar. We’re not the kind of church to just
worry about our own well being. We want to show the grace and love of
Jesus to everyone.
Why? Because we’ve heard Jesus say, “What good is it if you love only
those who love you?” and have taken it to heart. We’re constantly
looking for another chance to give ourselves away.
This is not a sit-on-your-hands kind of church. This is a doing church.
If you keep worshiping with us then you will be asked to get involved.
That’s a promise. We believe you want to make a difference, be relevant,
and we want to help you make that happen.
Neither is this a spiritually complacent kind of church. This is a grow
your soul church. We believe you want God to make a difference in your
own life, and we want to help with that in any
way we can.
You see, this church is in pursuit of a vision which took us 18 months
to discern. We invested that time to take inventory of our history,
evaluate our values, repent of bad habits, listen to God’s direction in
scripture and through prayer, dream of becoming who God calls us to be
and lay a course to get it done.
Sure, we’ve been around for 200 years. We’ve lifted up God’s praises in
the old Greenstone for some 6,800 Sundays, give or take, and we’re
amazed at God’s faithfulness. Yet our calling is to
press on and take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of us.
Join us in worship. Offer your heart and soul to God. Enjoy our
fellowship. Come to our dinners. Help our mission partners. Make music
in our choirs or from the pews. Study God’s word in our classes and
small groups, and celebrate this life-giving faith.
Welcome home. |
